According to an Economist Intelligence Unit report, Bulgaria is the 13th most attractive location for offshoring. It is known to be a good spot for delocalizing production of many industries, amongst which are some world leader companies in the ICT and BPO sector.
This comes about thanks to the qualified workforce (12% of the total professionals of all East Europe can be found in Bulgaria), as well as the presence of strong IT categories and a policy which facilitates the development of Information and Communication Technology – sector that experiences a strong and steady annual growth.
The industrial sectors that utilize the developed software as well as the kinds of supplied tasks are very diverse: from aereospacial and defence industry to the academic sector, from customer-oriented software development to market-research and launch in the Country of world-renowned software products. There are numerous collaborations with foreign companies in the sector (the Austrian MobiTel, the Greek Globul and CosmOTE, the Chinese Huawei, the Swedish Ericsson and the American Advent and BTC).
In the biotechnologies sector there are collaborations currently in place between the roman University of Tor Vergata and the Institute for the Infective Diseases of Sofia. The Country is signatory of all major international treaties, conventions and agreements, managed by the World Organisation for Intellectual Property safeguard; furthermore the legislation in the IT sector has been defined by all main directives Bulgaria follows being a member of the WTO and the EU.
